    STATEMENT OF FAITH

John Newton International Center for Christian Studies

Statement of Faith

Jesus Christ came into the world to give His life for all who believe on His name,

in order to redeem us from sin and death, and to make us pure and ready to do His

will. Jesus is coming again in glory to settle all things and to establish for His

people a new heaven and a new earth perfect in happiness and joy.

The world around is filled with death, suffering, and offenses committed by men

and women against God and against one another. This is no accident. All things

were planned and ordered by God before the beginning of time, yet God was not

the author of sin.

We know these things because through the ages, men inspired by God have

written His [very] word without error. By the goodness of God we have reliable

versions of the Scriptures on which we are to meditate and are called to obey.

There is only one God who eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son

and the Holy Spirit. We believe in the sinfulness of man. We believe no one is

able to please God apart from His forgiveness, mercy and grace. Salvation is by

grace alone through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. By salvation, we

are born again, not because of the will of man, but of God.

The Holy Spirit indwells believers and empowers us for lives of faithful

obedience.

We believe the common elements of the historic Reformation creeds such as the

Westminster Confession of Faith, the Second London Baptist Confession of 1689,

the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession of 1561, and the Augsburg

Confession.

As such, we believe Christians are called to lay down their lives and follow the

Lord Jesus Christ, notwithstanding the cost and sacrifice required, and to proclaim

His name to those who have not yet heard the Gospel message.
